Write your first announcement

Pro feature You need SimpleBoards Pro active to use this.

This page shows you how to write one announcement and publish it on a board. An announcement is a short post that visitors see on the Announcement tab of a board. It can mark a new release, share a product update, or call attention to anything you want to highlight.

Before you start

Step by step

  1. In your WordPress admin, go to SimpleBoards > Announcements.
  2. Click the Add New button at the top of the page.
  3. The standard WordPress editor opens.
  4. Type a short, clear title in the title field, for example Version 2.4 is live.
  5. In the editor below the title, write the body of the announcement. You can use paragraphs, lists, links, and images.
  6. Scroll down to the box titled Announcement Settings. Fill in the fields.

The Announcement Settings fields

  • Board: pick the board this announcement belongs to. An announcement always belongs to one board. The dropdown lists every board on your site.
  • Type: pick Release, Improvement, Fix, or Announcement. The type is shown as a small label on each announcement card, so visitors can scan the list. Pick the one that best fits the content.
  • Pin to top: tick Pinned announcements appear before regular entries if you want this announcement to stay at the top of the list, even when newer announcements are added. Use this for items you want everyone to see, like a major release. Untick it again any time.
  • Expires at: optional. Pick a date and time when this announcement should disappear from the public list. Leave the field empty to keep the announcement visible forever. Useful for time-limited news, like a beta sign-up window.
  • Related roadmap or idea: optional. Pick an item from the same board to link this announcement to a specific roadmap item or idea. If you set the CTA URL below to empty, the announcement card's button uses this item's link.
  • CTA label: optional. The text that appears on the announcement card's call-to-action button, for example Read the changelog or Try it now.
  • CTA URL: optional. The address the CTA button opens. If you leave this empty but you picked a Related roadmap or idea above, the button opens that item instead.
  1. When the announcement is ready to publish, click the Publish button on the right side of the screen.

What changed

Your announcement now appears on the front of the board you chose. Open the board on your site and click the Announcement tab (or whatever label you set). You will see your announcement card with:

  • the title and body you wrote,
  • the type label (Release, Improvement, Fix, or Announcement),
  • the CTA button if you set one,
  • a small badge on the tab itself if the unread badge is turned on.

If you ticked Pin to top, your announcement stays above other announcements until you untick it.

If you set an Expires at date, the announcement is hidden from the public list once that date passes. It stays in SimpleBoards > Announcements as a normal published post, so you can edit it or extend the expiry date later.

A note on board assignment

You must pick a Board before you publish. If you click Publish with the board left empty, the announcement is saved as a Draft instead of being published. This keeps "homeless" announcements out of the public list. Pick a board and click Publish again.
