Hide a single item from the public board

Pro feature You need SimpleBoards Pro active to use this.

This page shows you how to hide one item on a public board without hiding the whole board. The board stays public. The hidden item is visible only to users who can edit items. Use this for ideas you are still drafting, internal notes, or items you do not want visitors to see yet.

Before you start

  • SimpleBoards Pro is active and your license is in the Active state.
  • The item you want to hide already exists on a board.

Hide an item from the admin edit screen

This is the easiest way if you want to hide a few items at once.

  1. In your WordPress admin, go to SimpleBoards > Items.
  2. Click the title of the item you want to hide.
  3. Scroll down. You will see a row labeled Visibility with a dropdown.
  4. Click the dropdown and choose Private.
  5. Click the Save Item button at the bottom.

Hide an item from the frontend drawer

You can also change visibility while you read the board, without going into the admin.

  1. Open the board on the front of your site, while logged in as a user who can edit items.
  2. Click the item card. The item drawer opens on the right.
  3. In the meta panel, find the row labeled Visibility.
  4. Click the value (it reads Public by default).
  5. Pick Private from the dropdown.
  6. Save the drawer changes.

What changed

The item is now hidden from public visitors:

  • Visitors who are not logged in, and logged-in users who cannot edit items, no longer see the item on the board, the roadmap, or in search results.
  • Users who can edit items (Editors, Administrators, and anyone with the edit_posts capability) still see the item.

The board stays public. Only this one item is hidden.

To show the item again, repeat the steps and set Visibility back to Public.

When to use this instead of making the board private

  • Use item visibility when most of the board is fine to show, but one or two items are not ready.
  • Use a private board when you want to hide the whole board, including all items, from public visitors. See Limit a board to logged-in users only.

You can also use both at once. On a private board, an item set to Private adds a second layer: only users who can edit items see it, even if the user has access to the private board.
