Add tasks to a roadmap item's checklist

This page shows you how to add checklist tasks to one roadmap item. You can do this from the WordPress admin, or from the public board itself if you are logged in as an editor or admin. Tasks are how the progress bar on the card is calculated.

Before you start

  • SimpleBoards Pro is active.
  • The checklist progress bar is turned on for the board. See Turn on the checklist progress bar for a board.
  • The item you want to edit is a roadmap item, not an idea. Ideas do not show the checklist section.

Option A: from the WordPress admin

  1. In your WordPress admin, go to SimpleBoards > Items.
  2. Click the title of the roadmap item you want to add tasks to.
  3. The item edit screen opens. Scroll down to the section titled Progress Checklist.
  4. To add one task, click the Add Task button. A new empty row appears at the bottom of the list.
  5. Type the task name in the text field.
  6. To mark the task as already done, tick the Done checkbox on the left of the row.
  7. To remove a task, click the red Remove link on the right of the row.
  8. To add several tasks at once, click Add multiple. A larger text area opens. Paste or type one task per line. Empty lines are skipped. Click Add tasks to bring all of them into the list.
  9. Click the Update button at the bottom of the page.

Option B: from the public board (editors and admins only)

  1. Open the board page on your site.
  2. Click the roadmap card you want to edit. The drawer panel slides in from the right.
  3. If you can edit this board, you will see an Edit button. Click it.
  4. The drawer switches to edit mode. Scroll down to the Checklist section.
  5. Use the same controls as in option A: Add Task, the Done checkbox, the Remove link, and Add multiple for bulk pasting.
  6. Click Save at the bottom of the drawer.

Logged-out visitors and visitors without edit permission do not see the Edit button. They see the checklist as a read-only list, with a checkmark next to tasks that are done.

What changed

The item now has a checklist. Two things follow:

  • A progress bar appears on the item's card on the roadmap. It shows the count of completed tasks (for example 3/8 tasks) and a percentage. The bar is green at 80% or more, amber between 45% and 79%, and red below 45%.
  • The checklist is also visible inside the drawer when someone opens the item.

If you remove every task from the item, the progress bar disappears from the card. The card behaves as if no checklist had ever existed on the item.
