Save a custom theme so you can reuse it

Pro feature You need SimpleBoards Pro active to use this.

This page shows you how to save the design choices you have made on one board into a named, reusable theme. After you save the theme, every board on your site can pick it from the Theme dropdown, the same way you pick a built-in theme.

Before you start

Step by step

  1. In your WordPress admin, go to SimpleBoards > Boards and open the board you tuned.
  2. At the top of the board edit screen, click the Design tab.
  3. Find the Theme dropdown.
  4. Open it and pick Custom (new) from the Custom group near the bottom of the list.
  5. A new row appears called Custom Theme Name.
  6. Type a name for your theme in the text field. Pick something short and clear, like Brand light or Acme dark.
  7. Tick the checkbox Save this custom theme globally for all boards below the name field.
  8. Click the Update button at the bottom of the page.

What changed

Your theme is now saved. Three things follow:

  • The board you are editing keeps using the design values you set.
  • The Theme dropdown on every board on the site now lists your saved theme under the Custom group, prefixed with Saved:. For example, Saved: Brand light.
  • Any board can switch to your saved theme by opening the Theme dropdown, picking the saved entry, and clicking Update.

A saved theme is a snapshot of your design values at the moment you saved it. If you later edit the values on a board, the saved theme does not change with it. To update the saved theme, change the values again, pick Custom (new), type the same name, tick the global checkbox, and click Update. The new save overwrites the old one.

Remove a saved theme

  1. On the Design tab, open the Theme dropdown.
  2. Pick the saved theme you want to delete (its name starts with Saved:).
  3. A red Delete button appears next to the dropdown.
  4. Click Delete and confirm the prompt.

The saved theme is removed from the dropdown on every board. Boards that were using the saved theme keep the design values that were applied at the time, but they will fall back to Custom (new) in the dropdown.
