What Torin AI does

Pro feature You need SimpleBoards Pro active to use this.

Torin is the AI helper built into SimpleBoards Pro. It reads the ideas on your board and gives you a short, useful summary so you do not have to scan every card by hand. This page explains what Torin does, when it runs, and what data it sends to do its job.

What Torin gives you

Torin lives under SimpleBoards > Items in the WordPress admin. You will see a Torin AI panel on the page. Inside it, three things are produced:

1. Top ideas

A short list of the ideas with the strongest signal on your board (vote count, comment activity, recency). The point is to tell you what to look at first when you only have ten minutes.

2. Duplicate ideas

A list of ideas that look like they say the same thing in different words. For each suspected duplicate, Torin shows which ideas it grouped together and a short reason why. You can then merge or close the duplicates yourself.

3. Suggested actions

A short list of next steps. Examples: "Promote this idea to the roadmap", "Reply with a status update", "Close this idea as a duplicate of #34". Each suggestion has an Apply button so you can act on it in one click.

Suggestions come with an evidence summary. Torin does not invent items: each suggested action points back to specific ideas it is based on.

When Torin runs

This is the key thing to know:

Torin only runs when an admin clicks a button.

There is no background job. There is no automatic call when a visitor submits an idea. The plugin does not send anything to the AI service in the background.

You click Analyze Ideas in the Torin panel. The plugin reads your board, sends the data described below to the Torin relay, waits for an answer, and shows you the result. The result is cached, so opening the panel again shows you the last analysis without sending anything new. You can click Regenerate to run a fresh analysis on demand.

There is also a master switch under SimpleBoards > Settings > General called Enable Torin AI. When it is off, the Torin panel is not shown at all, and no calls to the relay can be made.

What data Torin sends to the relay

Torin's analysis runs on an external service called the Torin AI relay, hosted by SimpleBoards. When you click Analyze Ideas, the plugin sends the data below to the relay. It does not send anything else.

Per-idea data (only ideas, not roadmap items)

For each idea on the selected board, Torin sends:

  • The item ID number.
  • The idea title.
  • The idea description (the text body).
  • The vote count.
  • The comment count.
  • The category names attached to the idea (if any).
  • How old the idea is, in days.
  • The first sentences of the top few comments on the idea (short snippets).

Per-board data

  • The board ID number.
  • The board title.
  • The board description.
  • Totals across the board: number of ideas, total votes, total comments, averages, and new ideas in the last 30 days.

Site data (sent once, when the site first connects to the relay)

  • Your site URL.
  • A one-way hash of your site's domain (a fixed-length string the relay uses to recognize the site without storing the URL in clear text).
  • The product name: simpleboards-roadmap-pro.
  • The Pro version number.
  • The WordPress version, PHP version, and site locale (for example, en_US).
  • The plan name (for example, pro).

What Torin does not send

  • No visitor IP addresses.
  • No author email addresses for ideas or comments.
  • No login credentials.
  • No information from posts or pages outside of SimpleBoards.
  • No content from boards you did not pick.
  • Nothing from roadmap items (Torin only reads ideas).
  • No data when you have not clicked an analysis button.

How to turn Torin off

You have two ways to stop Torin entirely.

  • Disable the feature. Go to SimpleBoards > Settings > General and uncheck Enable Torin AI. The Torin panel disappears. No calls are made.
  • Deactivate the Pro plugin. Torin is a Pro-only feature. Without Pro active, no Torin UI is loaded and no calls can be made.

A short example

You have 90 ideas on your board and you have not looked at them in two weeks. You open SimpleBoards > Items, click Torin AI, then click Analyze Ideas.

Torin sends the ideas (titles, descriptions, votes, comments, categories, age, short comment snippets) and the board summary to the relay. A few seconds later, it shows you:

  • The top five ideas worth a second look this week.
  • Two groups of duplicate ideas you missed.
  • Three suggested actions, each with an Apply button.

You merge one duplicate group, promote one idea to the roadmap, and close one as out of scope. Total time, maybe three minutes. You did not have to read all 90 ideas.
