Turn on the announcements tab for a board
This page shows you how to add an Announcement tab to one board. The tab gives you a place to publish release notes, product updates, and other news next to the roadmap and ideas tabs. You turn it on per board, so quiet boards stay quiet.
Before you start
- SimpleBoards Pro is active and your license is in the
Activestate. - The board you want to announce on already exists.
Step by step
- In your WordPress admin, go to SimpleBoards > Boards.
- Click the title of the board.
- At the top of the board edit screen, click the Announcement tab.
- You will see a section titled Announcement Settings.
- Tick the checkbox next to Enable announcements for this board.
- A new group of fields appears below. Set them like this:
- Tab label: the name visitors see on the public board tab. The default is
Announcement. You can change it toRelease notes,What's new, or anything else. - Items per page: how many announcements show on one page before the next page link appears. The default is
10. You can pick a number between1and50. - Unread badge: tick to show a small red number on the tab when there are new announcements the visitor has not seen yet.
- Dismiss action: tick to let visitors close announcement cards they have already read. A dismissed card stays hidden for that visitor on that device.
- Tab label: the name visitors see on the public board tab. The default is
- If the board is already saved, you will also see a row called Manage content with two buttons: Add Announcement and View Board Announcements. You will use these in the next page.
- Click the Update button at the bottom of the page.
What changed
Your board has a new tab. When a visitor opens the board, a new tab appears next to Roadmap and Ideas, using the label you set. The tab is empty until you write your first announcement.
The tab is only visible while announcements are turned on for this board. If you ever untick Enable announcements for this board and save, the tab disappears from the front of your site. The announcements you wrote stay in the database, so you can turn the tab back on later without losing anything.
