Find duplicate ideas
This page shows you how to ask Torin to find ideas that say the same thing in different words, and how to clean up the duplicates from inside the Torin panel. Duplicates are common on a busy board, and clearing them keeps the votes meaningful.
How to open the view
- In your WordPress admin, go to SimpleBoards > Items.
- Use the All Boards dropdown at the top to pick one board, or leave it on All Boards to look at every board at once.
- Click the Torin AI button in the bottom right of the screen.
- In the panel, click Duplicate Ideas.
Torin reads the titles and descriptions of your ideas and groups together the ones that look like duplicates. This takes a few seconds.
What you see
The view shows up to eight groups. Each group has:
- A heading in bold. This is the title of the idea Torin thinks should be kept. Torin calls it the canonical idea.
- A line below the heading that reads Items: …. It lists the titles of the other ideas in the group, separated by middle dots.
Below the list, you will see a section called Suggested Actions. Each suggested action is one duplicate Torin wants to remove. The text on each row is like Remove duplicate: My second idea (keep: My first idea), so you can see exactly what will be removed and which idea will stay.
Apply a suggested action
Each suggested action has an Apply button on the right.
- Read the row to make sure you agree with Torin's pick.
- Click Apply.
- A confirmation window asks This will move selected ideas to trash. Continue?.
- Click OK to confirm.
The duplicate idea is moved to the WordPress trash. The canonical idea (the one in the keep part of the row) stays in place.
What "move to trash" means
The duplicate is not deleted forever. WordPress keeps trashed items for 30 days by default, so you can restore them if needed:
- Go to SimpleBoards > Items.
- Click the Trash link near the top of the items list.
- Hover the item you want back and click Restore.
If you are sure you want the duplicate gone forever, click Delete Permanently in the trash view.
A note on votes and comments
When you trash a duplicate, the votes and comments on that duplicate do not move to the canonical idea. They stay attached to the trashed item. Most teams accept this trade because the canonical idea usually already has more votes. If keeping every vote matters to you, look at the duplicate group first and trash the one with fewer votes by hand.
What Torin will not do
Torin will not trash anything on its own. Every removal needs you to click Apply and confirm. If you close the panel without clicking, nothing changes.
