How to Add a Public Roadmap to Your WordPress Site
Do people keep asking you “when will this be ready?” A public roadmap answers that for you. It is one simple page that shows what you are working on, what is coming next, and what is already done. You share the link once, and people stop sending you the same question.
Here is how to add one to your WordPress site. It takes about ten minutes, and you do not need a paid tool.
Why keep your roadmap on your own site
Many roadmap tools keep your roadmap on their website, at an address like feedback.theirtool.com. That is their address, their server, and your data sitting somewhere you do not control. When your roadmap lives on your own WordPress site, it is yours. Google can find it, it brings visitors to you, and no one can take it away.
What you need
Just your WordPress site and a free plugin called SimpleBoards. It shows the board right inside your own theme, so it looks like a real part of your site, not a box stuck on top.
Add your roadmap, step by step
- In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins, then Add New. Search for SimpleBoards and install it.
- Click Activate.
- Open SimpleBoards in the menu and create your first board.
- Add your columns. Most people use three: Up Next, In Progress, and Done. You can name them anything you like.
- Make a new page called Roadmap and paste in this shortcode: Board not found.
- Click Publish. Your roadmap is now live.
That is all. Visitors can see your plan right away.
One tip so people trust it
A roadmap only helps if it is honest. Move a card to In Progress the day you start it. Mark it Done the day it ships. If your roadmap is out of date, people stop believing it, so a two-minute update once a week is plenty.
